Patrick is Non Executive Director and Deputy Chairman of Towergate and joined in July 2007 to lead and build Towergate Financial Services.

Patrick was formerly a board director of Aviva plc and executive chairman of Norwich Union, a leading provider of life, pensions and general insurance in the UK, and RAC – the UK's leading motoring services organisation.

In May 2005, Patrick led the team that acquired RAC for £1.1bn. He oversaw the smooth and timely integration of RAC into Aviva's UK general insurance business.

More recently, following the restructure of group executive director responsibilities, Patrick also assumed responsibility for Aviva's UK life business.Patrick joined Norwich Union in 1989 and became a board director in 1999.

In May 2000 when Norwich Union merged with CGU, Patrick relinquished his main board position and became managing director of Norwich Union Insurance responsible for all UK general insurance excluding London markets. In March 2001, Patrick was re-appointed to the main Aviva board.

Before joining the insurance industry, Patrick spent almost 20 years in the Army, including periods as a Reconnaissance Troop Leader through to Squadron Leader in the UK and in West Germany while serving with the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards. He attended the Army Staff College in 1983-1984 and subsequently served as Brigade Major with the 24th Infantry Brigade.
